Tijger voor onbegaanbaar terrein
Hyundai onthult opnieuw een UMV (Ultimate Mobility Vehicle): een voertuig dat met zowel wielen als geavanceerde robotpoten ongekend mobiel is en op elke ondergrond uit de voeten kan. De TIGER is een elektrisch en onbemand voertuig voor transport van ladingen over moeilijk begaanbaar terrein.
Ultiem mobiel voertuig
TIGER staat voor ‘Transforming Intelligent Ground Excursion Robot’ en is ontwikkeld door de New Horizons Studio van de Hyundai Motor Group in samenwerking met een softwarebedrijf en een industrieel ontwerpadviesbureau. New Horizons Studio is in 2020 opgericht voor het ontwikkelen van UMV’s, waarin de techniek van robots, automotive design en elektrische voertuigen zijn samengevoegd tot een ultiem mobiel voertuig.

Rijden én lopen
Dankzij de technologie uit elektrische voertuigen en robots kan de TIGER zich op moeilijk begaanbaar terrein veel beter voortbewegen dan de beste terreinauto’s. Hyundai’s TIGER kan namelijk niet alleen rijden als een gewone auto, maar hij kan ook ‘lopen’ op moeilijk begaanbaar terrein. De Hyundai TIGER is voorzien van robotpoten die onafhankelijk van elkaar kunnen bewegen. TIGER is gebaseerd op een modulair platform waarop diverse carrosserieën voor uiteenlopende doeleinden zijn te monteren.
Transport van hulpgoederen
De TIGER is een onbemand voertuig, uitsluitend bedoeld voor vrachtvervoer. Daarom heeft hij een grote laadruimte om bijvoorbeeld hulpgoederen te brengen naar gebieden waar gebruikelijke reddingsvoertuigen niet kunnen komen. Speciale technieken zorgen ervoor dat TIGER nauwelijks helt, zodat de lading vrijwel horizontaal kan worden vervoerd.

De eerste versie van de TIGER is de X-1, waarin een breed scala aan technologische mogelijkheden en ontwerpexpertise samenkomen. Dat heeft geresulteerd in een enorm lichte maar zeer sterke structuur. Voor de robotpoten en bepaalde chassiselementen is gebruikgemaakt van koolstofvezelcomposiet.
