Hoe Toyota hoopt te scoren met zijn elektrische bestelauto
Interview met Erwin Jongh, Zero Emission Champion Louwman & Parqui
Eerst denken, dan doen. Toyota introduceert de nieuwe ProAce Electric een beetje onder dat motto. In gesprek met Erwin Jongh, verantwoordelijk voor het ‘Zero Emission Programma’ bij Toyota-importeur Louwman & Parqui, wordt duidelijk dat Toyota goed over de zaken heeft nagedacht.
Modellen zonder verbrandingsmotor
Erwin Jongh is verantwoordelijk voor de uitrol van Toyota-modellen zonder verbrandingsmotor die lokaal emissievrij kunnen rijden. Een model als de Toyota ProAce Electric bijvoorbeeld, een bestelauto die voor de Nederlandse markt volgens hem bijzonder interessant is.
Hoogwaardig EV-netwerk
Jongh: “In Nederland staan al dik 70.000 publieke laadpalen. Dat worden er nog veel meer, want de overheid gaat hierin de komende jaren extra investeren. Dat is alleen maar positief voor een auto als de ProAce Electric.” Hij vervolgt: “Omdat Nederland al een zeer hoogwaardig EV-netwerk heeft en deze in de toekomst alleen maar beter wordt, kun je een elektrisch voertuig vrijwel overal opladen.”
Broertjes
Natuurlijk is de ProAce Electric wat concept niet uniek ten opzichte van zijn broertjes: de Opel Vivaro-e, Peugeot e-Expert en Citroën e-Jumpy. Die voertuigen zijn technisch identiek aan de Toyota en zijn net als de ‘Japanner’ leverbaar met een 50 kWh of 75 kWh accu.

Garantie
De Peugeot e-Expert, Citroën e-Jumpy en Opel Vivaro-e worden standaard geleverd met twee jaar fabrieksgarantie, zonder kilometerlimiet. Tegen meerprijs is de garantie van de auto te verlengen met 1, 2 of zelfs 3 jaar, afhankelijk van het moment waarop je beslist om te verlengen. Je kunt tot maximaal 5 jaar garantie krijgen. Op de batterij geldt voor deze drie modellen 8 jaar garantie op de batterij tot 160.000 kilometer.
Unieke garantie
Toyota vaart wat garantie een eigen koers. Jongh: “Op de batterij – die 50 kWh of 75 kWh groot is – geven we een unieke garantie, te weten 1 miljoen kilometer of vijftien jaar. We willen ondernemers met de uitgebreide garantie laten zien dat je ook bij volledig elektrisch rijden altijd op je bedrijfswagen kunt vertrouwen. Vooruitdenken is belangrijk, helemaal nu we steeds voorzichtiger om willen gaan met het milieu. We laten hiermee ook zien dat we verder kijken dan alleen de eerste gebruiker. Ook de tweede, derde of zelfs vierde eigenaar kan zodoende nog een voertuig kopen met garantie. De langere garantietermijn is ook gunstig voor de restwaarde en dat is weer interessant voor de ondernemer.”
One size fits all, dat werkt niet
In de bedrijfsautosector is ‘one size fits all’ een verkeerde aanpak. Elke ondernemer heeft eigen wensen. Een hovenier heeft andere wensen dan een pakketbezorger of iemand die de kinderen naar school brengt. We bieden om die reden verschillende varianten aan. Er is in de basis al keuze uit drie modelvarianten: de Compact, de middelgrote Worker en de grotere Long Worker.
Toyota levert ook versies met dubbele cabine geschikt voor zes inzittenden en met een laadvolume van 4 m3. De ProAce Electric Truck biedt versies met een open laadbak of een kipper, handig voor gemeentes, groenvoorziening en aannemers. Een truck met maatwerkopbouw, met een laadvolume tot 10,5 m3, is interessant voor onder meer thuisbezorgservices.
Laat? Of op tijd?
Guido Roozekrans, woordvoerder van Toyota Nederland: “We zijn relatief laat met de introductie van een volledig batterij-elektrisch model, dat klopt, maar Toyota staat er heel goed voor. Onze gemiddelde CO2-uitstoot is beter dan van alle andere automerken. We hebben daardoor geen stress met het snel moeten drukken van onze gemiddelde CO2-uitstoot van de complete vloot. We zijn al jaren bezig met hybrides en daar plukken we nu de vruchten van, al blijft het belangrijkste voordeel voor de klant: een lager brandstofverbruik.”
CO2-emissie of stikstof
Erwin Jongh: “Toch is niet zozeer de CO2-emissie een issue, maar de uitstoot van stikstof. In binnensteden gelden vooral op het gebied van stikstof steeds strengere regels. Veel bestelauto’s met een dieselmotor mogen de binnenstad niet meer. En dat terwijl de druk op binnensteden steeds groter wordt, want we bestellen steeds meer online. Boodschappen maar ook kleding en andere bestellen we massaal online en laten we thuis bezorgen. Helemaal in een tijd waarin we vaker vanuit huis werken, nu sterk van toepassing dankzij het COVID19-virus. We moeten daardoor snel aanpakken. Gelukkig kunnen we dat. Een ding is zeker: ‘zero emission stadslogistiek’ wordt steeds relevanter.”
Waarom dan?
Waarom? Simpel: steeds meer gemeentes gooien de binnenstad op slot voor bestelauto’s met een dieselmotor. Alleen met een volledig elektrische aandrijflijn – waarmee je dus lokaal emissievrij kunt rijden – kom je er nog in. Dat biedt kansen voor auto’s als de ProAce Electric.”
Dienstverlening
Roozekrans: “Dienstverlening is net zo belangrijk als het product zelf. Een ondernemer zit niet te wachten op gedoe. Ontzorgen en coachen, daarop ligt de focus. Jongh vult aan: “Met coachen doelen we op de methode om te zorgen dat een klant altijd met het juiste product op pad gaat. We kunnen iemand wel in een ProAce Electric praten, maar als die persoon continu op de snelweg is te vinden, dan gaat dat natuurlijk niet werken. Een dieselmotor is het zuinigst op de snelweg, een elektrische auto is het zuinigst in de stad. De rollen zijn voor een EV dus omgedraaid. Dat zal vast even omdenken zijn voor de klant.”
Uitleggen
Jongh: “We moeten ook proberen om alles zo duidelijk mogelijk uit te leggen aan een klant. Over het opladen bijvoorbeeld. Want hoe leg je nu 1-fase of 3-fase laden uit? We proberen het simpel te houden. Wil je een zwembad vullen met één waterslang, of met drie waterslangen? Met dat laatste ben je veel sneller klaar. Overigens leveren we in Nederland standaard een 3-fase laadsysteem. Coachen is voor het bedrijf belangrijk, want je moet als bedrijf goed gaan nadenken op welke routes je een ProAce Electric inzet. In de stad komt ie veel beter tot zo’n recht, dus is heel veel interessanter om hem dan aan een werknemer mee te geven die vrijwel altijd in de stad zijn werk doet.”
