Volkswagen trekt het doek van de I.D. Buggy
Nieuwe funauto laat oude tijden herleven
Volkswagen laat oude tijden herleven met de I.D. Buggy conceptcar. De vormgeving doet sterk denken aan de buggy’s op basis van een Kever uit de jaren zestig en zeventig. De I.D. Buggy is gebaseerd op het modulaire MEB-platform waardoor de carrosserie eenvoudig verwijderd kan worden. Volkswagen moedigt dan ook kleine bedrijven en start-ups aan om zelf aan de slag te gaan met het platform.
Volledig vlakke bodem
Volkswagen liet eerder al de schetsen van de I.D. Buggy zien, maar nu zijn alle specificaties bekend. De I.D..Buggy staat op het nieuwe MEB-platform van de Volkswagen-groep, waarbij de elektromotor achterin tussen de achterwielen ligt. De accu’s zijn in de chassisstructuur verwerkt, waardoor de auto een volledig vlakke bodem heeft.
Net als de originele buggy’s (die ook een vlakke vloer en de motor achterin hadden) heeft de I.D. Buggy een laag zwaartepunt en achterwielaandrijving.
Actieradius 250 kilometer
Binnen 7,2 seconden accelereert hij van 0 naar 100 km/u en de topsnelheid is begrensd op 160 km/u. Wil je liever de duinen in? Dan is de buggy optioneel met vierwielaandrijving uit te rusten. De actieradius bedraagt volgens de WLTP-norm 250 kilometer.
Eigen interpretatie
De ID. Buggy is een echte tweezitter die door het ontbreken van deuren, zijruiten en een volwaardig dak vooral geschikt is voor warme gebieden. Volkswagen benadrukt echter dat de buggy dankzij zijn modulaire platform eenvoudig om te bouwen is tot een vierzits auto of iets totaal anders. Net als vroeger biedt dat kansen voor kleine fabrikanten om met hun eigen interpretatie van de I.D. Buggy op de markt te komen.
Flexibele laadstations
Volkswagen ziet de I.D. Buggy als een echte strandauto en ook het opladen ervan moet op het strand gebeuren. Volkswagen wil daarvoor flexibele laadstations op het strand installeren. De laadstations bestaan uit oudere accupakketten die niet meer bruikbaar zijn in een auto. In 2020 wil het merk in Hannover voor het eerst testen met de laadstations.
Of de buggy daadwerkelijk in productie gaat is nog niet bekend. Het is de vijfde conceptcar op het modulaire MEB-platform.
