Volkswagen verwacht er in 2020 ongeveer zesduizend van op kenteken te zetten. We hebben het natuurlijk over de nieuwe Volkswagen ID.3. Het merk trapt af met de 1ST-uitvoering. In deze test en video vertellen we je alles wat je moet weten over de Volkswagen ID.3.
Nieuw tijdperk
De ID.3 luidt een nieuw tijdperk in voor Volkswagen. Nu zal je denken: ‘Maar het is toch gewoon de zoveelste elektrische auto?’. Daar heb je helemaal gelijk in. Het ‘nieuwe tijdperk’ slaat vooral op het gebruik van het nieuwe MEB-platform waarop het Volkswagen-concern diverse elektrische auto’s gaat bouwen. De ID.3 is slechts het begin. Later komen er een ID.Buzz en een ID.4 crossover bij. En daar houdt het niet mee op.
33 miljard euro
Volkswagen investeert liefst 33 miljard euro in de ontwikkeling van elektrische mobiliteit. Rond 2029 heeft de Group 75 batterij-elektrische modellen in het gamma. De ID.3 is wat dat betreft dus het begin van iets groots.
Volkswagen ID.3 1ST (2020) – REVIEW – AutoRAI TV
Volkswagen ID.3 met 58 kWh batterij
Maar laten we niet te hard van stapel lopen. Terug naar deze ID.3 1ST. Deze Volkswagen heeft een 58 kWh batterij en een 204 pk en 310 Nm sterke elektromotor op de achteras. Op die achteras is niet alleen de elektromotor, maar ook de elektronische aansturing en de ééntrapstransmissie geïntegreerd. De ID.3 1ST sprint in 7,3 seconden naar 100 km/u.
Er komen drie versies
Uiteindelijk komen er drie batterijversies van de ID.3. De 58 kWh-batterij met 420 kilometer range (WLTP) is de tweede in de line-up. Begin 2021 komt Volkswagen met een met 77 kWh accu met tot 542 km actieradius (WLTP). Daarnaast volgt er nog een 45 kWh-batterij met 330 kilometer range en een vermogen van 146 pk. Die gaat naar verwachting ongeveer 30.000 euro kosten.

ID.3 58 kWh – 204 pk – 420 km – laden: 11 kW (AC) tot 100 kW (DC)
ID.3 77 kWh – 204 pk – 542 km – laden: 11 kW (AC) tot 125 kW (DC)
Oplaadtijd
Bij 100 kW laadvermogen is de 58 kWh accu van de ID.3 1ST in 30 minuten op te laden voor een actieradius van 290 kilometer (WLTP). Ook hier geldt het adagium: opladen doe je wanneer dat kan, niet wanneer dat moet.
En wat kost dat allemaal?
Prijzen van de 45 kWh en 77 kWh versies zijn nog niet bekend. Voor de 45 kWh-versie geeft Volkswagen wel een richtprijs: minder dan 30.000 euro. Dat klinkt veelbelovend! Van de ID.3 1ST bestaan in ieder geval drie versies, te weten de 1ST (37.990 euro), de 1ST Plus (43.990 euro) en de 1ST Max (49.490 euro).
Dit is standaard
De basisversie van de ID.3 1ST kost 37.990 euro en beschikt standaard over onder meer 18-inch wielen, DAB+ digitale radio, een navigatiesysteem, Natural Voice Control, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control en parkeersensoren. De ID.3 1ST Plus – vanaf 43.990 euro – voegt daar onder meer 19-inch wielen, IQ.Light LED Matrix-koplampen, Keyless entry en een achteruitrijcamera aan toe.

Het topmodel: de 1ST Max
Het topmodel is de ID.3 1ST Max. Die kost 49.490 euro. Wij rijden in de Max-versie met nagenoeg alle toeters en bellen. Extra’s ten opzichte van de 1ST Plus zijn 20-inch lichtmetalen wielen, Travel Assist (Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist, Dodehoeksensor (Side Assist), Telefoonvoorbereiding ‘Plus’, inclusief draadloos laden, een panoramadak, comfortabele Ergo-Active stoelen vóór die ook elektrisch verstelbaar zijn en zelfs een massagefunctie hebben. Via een toekomstige update activeert Volkswagen ook een Head-up Display met ‘Augmented Reality’.
Opzet interieur
Het opzet van het interieur van de Volkswagen ID.3 is net even anders dan je in andere Volkswagen-modellen wellicht gewend bent. Er is in de ID.3 duidelijk sprake van minimalisme, in de positieve zin van het woord. Het interieur oogt en voelt ruimtelijk. Je kijkt uit op een compact digitaal instrumentencluster dat op een motorfiets niet zou misstaan. Verder heeft de ID.3 een fors touchscreen met een overzichtelijke menu-indeling.
Stuurwieltoetsen
Over de aanraaktoetsen op het stuurwiel zijn we niet echt te spreken. Ze worden snel vies en de bediening ervan verloopt onnatuurlijk met een wat raar aanvoelende haptische feedback. Hier had Volkswagen beter conventionele knoppen kunnen toepassen. Vernieuwing pakt in die zin niet altijd positief uit. Soms is old school nog steeds de beste methode. De besturing voelt wat wollig aan, zonder al te veel gevoel. Hier hebben meer elektrische auto’s ‘last’ van. Gewoon een kwestie van wennen, want na een week of maand weet je niet beter. Die 204 pk blijkt in de praktijk ook meer dan genoeg. Sterker nog: deze ID.3 is vlot. Heel vlot. Dat komt grotendeels door het koppel van 310 Nm dat altijd beschikbaar is. Dat maakt rijden in de ID.3 bijzonder aangenaam.
D overbodig
De transmissiehendel zit vast aan het digitale display voor je neus. Met een draai-selectiehendel selecteer je de gewenste versnelling: R, N, D of B. In standje ‘D’ rolt de ID.3 uit als een conventionele auto met verbrandingsmotor. In ‘B’ kun je daadwerkelijk rijden volgens het one-pedal-driving principe. Je wint in deze stand extra energie terug. Feitelijk zet je hem dus altijd in B. D is wat dat betreft overbodig.
Formaatje Golf
Wie de Volkswagen ID.3 in het echt ziet, concludeert vast één ding: hij is net zo groot als een Golf. Vanbinnen is de ID.3 echter veel ruimer, vergelijkbaar zelfs met een Passat. Doordat er minder ruimte nodig is voor de motor en aandrijving, ontstaat er een veel ruimer interieur. Vooral het dashboard is zoveel mogelijk naar voren geplaatst, haast op de voorwielen. Zo ontstaat een ruim compartiment. De bagageruimte is dan weer vergelijkbaar met een reguliere Golf. In de ID.3 heb je 385 liter tot je beschikking. Voor de volledigheid: de ID.3 is 4,26 meter lang, 1,81 meter breed en 1,55 meter hoog. Zijn wielbasis bedraagt liefst 2,77 meter.
Trekhaak aub?
Een reguliere trekhaak is op de ID.3 niet mogelijk. Voor het vervoer van bijvoorbeeld fietsen levert Volkswagen wel een speciale trekhaak (laadvermogen 75 kilogram).
Hoe zit het met onderhoud
De ID.3 wordt geleverd met tot 6 jaar onderhoud en APK-keuring bij de officiële Volkswagen-dealers. Maar let wel: buiten deze onderhoudsbeurten vallen slijtagedelen zoals remschijven, remblokken, ruitenwissers, banden en schade die ontstaan is door invloeden van buitenaf.

De actieradius
Op papier heeft de Volkswagen ID.3 1ST een range van 424 kilometer. In de praktijk moet je rekening houden met 300 tot 400 kilometer, afhankelijk van de buitentemperatuur, het type wegdek, de grootte van het wiel, de bandenspanning, geografische gegevens en in het bijzonder van je rijstijl. In een elektrische auto moet je echt je mindset wat betreft autorijden veranderen om het maximale uit het accupakket te halen. Iemand met een te zware rechtervoet, hoort feitelijk niet thuis in een BEV.
Conclusie
De Volkswagen ID.3 laat zien dat de fabrikant goed heeft nagedacht over de invulling van het concept ‘elektrische auto’. Het MEB-platform vormt een ijzersterke basis waarop Volkswagen kan bouwen, nu en in de toekomst. Vooral de ruimte aan boord, de stilte en het comfortabele onderstel zorgen ervoor dat je de ID.3 snel gaat waarderen.
