Voor autofabrikanten is het een sport om maximaal rendement te halen uit een hybride-aandrijflijn. Een zo laag mogelijk verbruik en dito geringe CO2-uitstoot is immers het doel. Zonder zou kunnen, alleen versnelt de Mondeo dan wel heel langzaam. In de praktijk is de benzinemotor gewoon regelmatig nodig voor acceptabele prestaties. Maar bij wegrijden en constante lage snelheden doet de viercilinder niet mee.
Spaartechniek
De Ford Mondeo Hybrid is trouwens met nog meer spaartechniek volgestouwd. Dat zijn onder meer een elektrisch aangedreven airconditioning en dito stuurbekrachtiging. De hiervoor benodigde pompen draaien kortom alleen als het nodig is, terwijl dergelijke attributen normaal gesproken continu worden aangedreven door de motor. Een ‘Brake Coach’ systeem zorgt ervoor dat je als bestuurder gelijkmatiger gaat remmen, waardoor bij vertraging een hoger rendement bij het terugwinnen van remenergie wordt bereikt. Samen met een beetje beheerste rijstijl moet een gemiddeld verbruik van 4,2 l/100 km en een CO2-uitstoot van 99 g/km mogelijk zijn.
