De stoerste elektrische SUV die je nu kunt kopen
Nog niet iedereen loopt warm voor een elektrische auto. Maar plak er een Mustang-badge op, geef hem een gemeen uiterlijk en plots draait iedereen zijn hoofd om. Wij gingen op pad met een gigantische aandachtstrekker: de Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Aandachtstrekker
Het duurde even, maar de eerste volledig elektrische auto van Ford is een feit. En het is geen Ford, maar een Mustang geworden. Gedurfd, dat zijn grote schoenen om te vullen. Toch is hij net even iets anders dan je verwacht. Het is namelijk een crossover SUV.
Nou niet meteen wegklikken, het is namelijk een zeer appetijtelijke verschijning. En neem dat niet alleen van ons aan. Als je met de Mach-E een blokje omgaat zal je al snel merken dat alle ogen op je gericht zijn. Smaken verschillen uiteraard, maar als je opzoek bent naar aandacht kunnen we je verzekeren dat je met de Mach-E goed zit.
Pony Car
Of het nou wel of niet een echte Mustang is, dat mag je lekker zelf bepalen. Maar de looks heeft hij in ieder geval wel. Vooral de langgerekte motorkap maakt indruk. Niet alleen als je voor de auto staat, ook achter het stuur kun je niet om de motorkap heen. Hij is altijd in het zicht, waardoor je al snel het gevoel krijgt dat je in een echte Amerikaanse ‘Pony Car’ zit. Slim gedaan van Ford, want dit gevoel krijg je niet in de keurige familie SUV’s van de concurrentie.
Ruimte genoeg
Onder de imposante motorkap ligt uiteraard geen dikke V8, maar een elektromotor en er is plek voor 80 liter bagageruimte. Deze opbergruimte is waterdicht, dus je kunt er eenvoudig je boodschappen, tassen met kleding of elektronica opbergen zonder dat je zorgen hoeft te maken dat het nat wordt.
Achterin is er plek voor 402 liter bagageruimte en 1.420 liter met neergeklapte achterbank. Omdat de daklijn – zoals je mag verwachten bij een Mustang – vrij sportief is, moet je er wel rekening mee houden dat grote hoge items moeilijk zullen passen in de kofferbak.
Sesam, open u!
De Mustang Mach-E zit vol met hippe technologie. Niet alleen in het interieur – daar komen we zo bij – maar ook aan de buitenkant. Zo ontbreken er deurgrepen. In plaats daarvan zit er op iedere deur een ronde knop die je kunt indrukken. De deur komt dan automatisch iets naar buiten, waarna je hem zelf verder kunt openen.
De auto kun je uiteraard openen via de autosleutel, maar ook via de FordPass-app. Als je je autosleutel vergeten bent én je mobiel leeg is, kun je ook nog via een keypad op de B-stijl een pincode indrukken om de auto te openen.
68 kWh – 88 kWh
In de vloer van onze testauto ligt een 95 kWh accupakket , maar je kunt ook kiezen voor een kleinere variant met 75 kWh. Naast de twee accupakketten kun je ook kiezen voor achterwielaandrijving of vierwielaandrijving. Er ontstaan zo vier verschillende combinaties, met ieder een andere actieradius:
RWD – 75 kWh = 440 km
AWD – 75 kWh = 400 km
RWD – 95 kWh = 610 km
AWD – 95 kWh = 540 km
De actieradius is uiteraard volgens de WLTP-test berekend. In de praktijk kun je er zo’n 50 tot 100 kilometer vanaf halen en tijdens een strenge winter nog meer. Het is dan ook een verstandige keuze van Ford om de auto te voorzien van een groot accupakket, want zelfs het ‘kleine’ accupakket is niet bepaald klein. Zo kun je zorgeloos rijden en hoef je geeneens iedere dag de auto aan de lader te hangen, tenzij je voor je werk de hele dag door het land rijdt.
Gelukkig kun je dan altijd nog snelladen. Dat kan met het grote accupakket tot 150 kW. De accu is dan binnen 45 minuten van 10 tot 80% gevuld. Het kleinere accupakket kan tot 115 kW DC-laden en duurt het zo’n 40 minuten tot 80%. Thuisladen of bij een openbare laadpaal kan tot 11 kW. Zo is de Mach-E na een nachtje laden er weer helemaal klaar voor.
Bioscoopscherm
In het interieur valt één ding meteen op: het gigantische 15,5-inch-touchscreen. Hij is groter dan in de Polestar 2 en zelfs groter dan in de Tesla Model 3. Het nieuwste Ford SYNC-systeem draait erop en is erg overzichtelijk. Je hoeft eigenlijk nooit meer dan één of twee keer op het scherm te tikken om ergens te komen waar je wilt zijn.
Fysieke knoppen mis je niet, want belangrijke zaken zoals klimaatregeling staan altijd vast onderaan het scherm. Alleen het volume regel je nog via een fysieke knop. Dat is overigens wel een hele bijzondere knop, want hij zit op het scherm geplakt en is niet verbonden via een fysiek kabeltje. Hoe hij precies werkt kun je in onze video zien onderaan dit artikel.
Voorverwarmen
Het Ford SYNC-systeem kun je eenvoudig koppelen met je telefoon. Zo kun je niet alleen van je eigen muziek genieten, maar kun je ook op afstand zien waar de auto zich begeeft en wat de actieradius is. Daarnaast kun je laadtijden instellen en de auto voorverwarmen- of koelen. Dit doe je natuurlijk terwijl je thuis nog aan de ontbijttafel zit en de auto nog aan de lader hangt. Zo stap je in een lekkere verwarmde of gekoelde auto en blijft de accu helemaal vol.
