Ford trekt de portemonnee voor het ontwikkelen van kleine elektrische auto’s op de Chinese markt, meldt Automotive News.
Alliantie met Anhui Zotye Automobile Co
De Amerikaanse autobouwer begint samen met het Chinese concern Anhui Zotye Automobile Co een alliantie voor het bouwen en verkopen van volledig elektrische auto’s in China, hoofdzakelijk kleinere, betaalbare auto’s. Beide bedrijven investeren samen 756 miljoen dollar om auto’s te ontwikkelen die onder een nieuwe voor China bedoelde merknaam worden uitgebracht.
Nieuwe fabriek
De alliantie houdt in dat er ook een nieuwe productiefaciliteit komt in Zhejiang. Er liggen plannen op tafel, maar die moeten eerst nog goedkeuring krijgen van de Chinese overheid. Ford verwacht dat ongeveer 70 procent van de nieuw verkochte auto’s in China in 2025 een vorm van elektrificatie hebben.
