Autotest – Range Rover P400e
Eigenlijk kun je spreekwoordelijk niet nat gaan met een Range Rover. Luxe en comfort heb je in overvloed. Alleen het brandstofverbruik? Dat kan fors uitpakken. Kies dan de Range Rover P400e. De eerste plug-inhybride van dit merk met een 2,0-liter viercilinder en een elektromotor. Volgens de Europese meting NEDC is een verbruik mogelijk van 2,8 l/100 km. Dat is wel heel weinig. Tijd voor een diepgaande onderdompeling in dit wonder van technologie en luxe.
Range Rover P400e motor
Een Range Rover met een 2,0-liter viercilindermotor, is dat niet een beetje afgeknepen? Niet, als die 221 kW (300 pk) levert. En is gekoppeld aan een elektromotor van 85 kW (116 pk). De eerste plug-inhybride (PHEV) van dit merk, de P400e, is dan ook beresterk. De trekkracht van 640 Nm is zelfs hoger dan dat van de Range Rover met een V8 Supercharged benzinemotor. Dat kun je niet echt krap bemeten noemen.
Overtreffende trap in achterbankcomfort
De nieuwe Range Rover P400e biedt een ongekende ervaring. We reden met de topversie SVAutobiography. Als je praat over achterbankcomfort, dan vindt je dat in deze uitvoering in de overtreffende trap. Achterin heb je 24-voudig verstelbare fauteuils. Met een druk op een centrale knop gaat de zitting naar voren de rugleuning naar achteren en tilt een voetenbankje de benen omhoog. Nog meer relaxen? Daarvoor is er massage. Je kunt kiezen uit 25 programma’s met als summum: hot stone. Ter hoogte van de onderrug komt geleidelijk een hete gloed uit de leuning. Echt, als je daar pijn hebt is dit een weldaad…
Het houdt niet op bij perfecte fauteuils. Je hebt achterin een koeler voor drankjes. En per zitplek een uitgebreid aanbod aan infotainmentopties met beeld op een scherm ter grootte van een iPad. Toch wat warm? Dan stel je achterin de airco een tandje lager of je zet even de stoelventilatie aan.
Range Rover P400e wegligging
Voorin is de luxe al even uitgebreid. Comfort, ruimte en infotainment zijn van hoge klasse dankzij het nieuwe Touch Pro Duo infotainmentsysteem met twee 10-inch touchscreens in de middenconsole. Informatie is van het ene naar het andere scherm te swipen. Lay-out en bediening zijn daarmee bijzonder intuïtief.
Intuïtief geldt ook voor het rijden en het rijgedrag. Want zelden krijg je het gevoel met een zware auto op pad te zijn. Hij stuurt licht en direct en valt op door een lichtvoetig weggedrag. Het is dat hij zo breed en lang is, daaraan merk je dat je met een soort tank op pad bent. Daardoor voel je je king of the road, het gevoel dat al sinds de komst eerste generatie vijftig jaar geleden kleeft aan Range Rover.
Koning offroad
Maar, de Range Rover is ook koning offroad. De eerste generatie is destijds ontwikkeld op onderstel en aandrijflijn van een Land Rover. Die was voor de farmer, met de Range Rover werd gemikt op de landlord. Ook de nieuwste versie is even terreinwaardig en -vaardig als zijn oude stamvader. Modder, diepe sporen, steile hellingen en forse stenen? Ga gerust de uitdaging aan.
Elektronica regelt nagenoeg alles voor je. De vierwielaandrijving, lage gearing en rijhoogte stel je in door een van de rijprogramma’s met een schakelaar in te stellen . In de rijpositie –mud and ruts – neemt de bodemvrijheid toe met 55 millimeter. En de transmissie schakelt automatisch over naar lage gearing. Via sensoren signaleert de elektronica of de bodemvrijheid nog verder moet worden verhoogd met tot 65 millimeter extra. Om te voorkomen dat de bodem de grond raakt op de top van een steil heuveltje.
Elektrische aandrijving effectief, ook in het terrein
Het samenspel tussen verbrandingsmotor en elektrische aandrijving is ook zeer effectief bij rijden in meer uitdagend terrein. Land Rovers Terrain Response 2-technologie zet de trekkracht van de elektromotor in. Anders dan bij de benzinemotor is er immers geen sprake van ‘kruipen’ en de elektrische aandrijving levert direct vanaf nul toeren maximaal koppel aan alle vier de aangedreven wielen. Een uitkomst bij off-roadmanoeuvres bij lage snelheid.
Tot 51 kilometer volledig elektrisch
Eigenlijk kan iedereen off road met de Range Rover. Helling af hoe je veelal niet eens te remmen. De auto remt zelf af en laadt tegelijk de batterij voor de elektrische aandrijving bij. O ja, je kunt zelfs door 90 centimeter diep water. We deden het bij deze test. Of we een stukje gingen varen. Zelfs de eenden kwamen nieuwsgierig naar de Range Rover toezwemmen. Over een afstand van maximaal 51 kilometer kun je volledig elektrisch rijden. In het terrein zal het rijbereik elektrisch minder zijn.
Range Rover P400e praktijkverbruik
Reken er ook maar niet op dat je dan een brandstofverbruik van 2,8 l/100 km haalt. Dat laatste is in de praktijk sowieso moeilijk. Het zal lukken om in de buurt te komen bij kortere afstanden met veel afremmen en optrekken. Dan is immers optimaal te profiteren van de batterij van 13,1 kWh. Bij langere afstanden zal die leeg raken en zal de tijd ontbreken om hem aan de stekker weer op te laden. Dan komt de aandrijving vooral voor rekening van de benzinemotor.
Een oplossing bij langere ritten is de SAVE-functie. Dit programma voorkomt dat de batterij onder een vooraf ingesteld laadniveau komt, zodat je altijd stroom hebt om elektrisch te rijden in bijvoorbeeld de stad. In de Predictive Energy Optimisation (PEO)-functie rijdt de P400e zo zuinig mogelijk naar een in het navigatiesysteem ingevoerde bestemming, waarbij benzine- en elektromotor op basis van GPS-data zo efficiënt mogelijk samenwerken.
