Test: Zorgeloos elektrisch rijden in de Chevrolet Volt
Auto van het Jaar
De Chevrolet Volt is in Genève samen met de technisch identieke Opel Ampera uitgeroepen tot Auto van het Jaar 2012. De Voltec-aandrijflijn die in de Chevrolet Volt huist, is doorontwikkeld op de techniek van GM’s eerste elektro-auto – de EV1 – uit 1996. Wat deze auto revolutionair maakt is echter de zogenoemde range extender. Een 1,4-liter benzinemotor die als generator fungeert zodra de accu’s leeggereden zijn.
Voltec
De Chevrolet Volt is uitgerust met 110 kW sterke elektromotor, een 16 kWh lithium-ion accupakket en een 63 kW sterke 1,4-liter benzinemotor. Met volle accu’s rijdt de auto 60-80 kilometer volledig elektrisch waarna de benzinemotor aanslaat om stroom op te wekken voor de elektromotor. Op een volle tank benzine, (35 liter) bedraagt de gecombineerde actieradius 500 kilometer met een gemiddeld brandstofverbruik van 2,1 l/100 km. GM zegt dat de Volt altijd elektrisch rijdt. Echter vertoont de technische informatie dat de benzinemotor soms wel in staat is om de auto aan te drijven bij een laag stroomniveau en bij een snelheid van boven de100 km/uur. Desalniettemin blijft GM bij zijn standpunt.
Krachtpatser
Met de schakelpook in ‘Drive’ en bij de eerste aanraking van het stroompedaal is direct de enorme trekkracht van de elektrische aandrijflijn merkbaar. Dankzij het T-vormige accupakket in de middentunnel en onder achterste stoelen is de wegligging van 1.715 kilo zware auto formidabel. Pas tijdens het afremmen en het rijden over verkeersdrempels valt het gewicht van de Volt op. Indien de schakelpook in de L-stand is geschakeld, wekt aandrijflijn meer stroom op tijdens het afremmen. Deze rijstand kan echter hinderlijk zijn voor achterliggers op de snelweg
Rijstanden
De bestuurder heeft keus uit vier voorgeprogrammeerde rijstanden. In de normale modus is de maximale elektrische actieradius realiseerbaar. De sportstand is voor een fellere rijbeleving, maar beperkt de elektrische actieradius. De bergstand benut vooral de benzinegenerator en tot slot kan de bestuurder in de zogenoemde stilhouden-stand alleen de generator benutten en de accu’s ontzien.
Futuristisch
Het interieur van de Chevrolet Volt is futuristisch vormgegeven. In het instrumentenpaneel en de middenconsole zijn LCD-schermen geïntegreerd. Opvallend zijn de touchscreen bedieningsknopjes in de middenconsole. De met leder beklede stoelen zijn in hoogte verstelbaar. Hoewel de auto voorin zeer ruimtelijk en comfortabel aanvoelt, is de ruimte voor de achterste twee inzittenden wat beperkt. Ook beperken de relatief lage daklijn en forse raamstijlen het zicht van de bestuurder.
Twee uitvoeringen
Chevrolet levert de Volt in de uitvoeringen LT en LTZ. De LT-versie kost 41.950 euro en is uitgerust met airbags, elektronische stabiliteitscontrole (ESP), een automatische airco, een MP3-audiosysteem met usb- en bluetooth-connectie, een met leder bekleed interieur, stoelverwarming, elektrische bedienbare ruiten en spiegels, cruise controle, LED-verlichting en lichtmetalen 17-inchwielen. De LTZ-versie kost 44.500 euro en is bovenop de bovenstaande LT-standaarduitrusting voorzien van een DVD-navigatiesysteem, parkeersensoren en een achteruitrijcamera.
