De crossover van Kia is eerder dan de bedoeling op internet verschenen. Een foto dook op in een verstuurde nieuwsbrief over de show. En dat blijft natuurlijk niet onopgemerkt. De compacte crossover van Kia heeft sportieve styling met een opvallende grote rode C-stijl. Verder is de letter Z overduidelijk aanwezig in het ontwerp. Zijspiegels heeft het model ook niet. Dat duidt op de aanwezigheid van zijcamera’s.
Hete chilipeper
Overigens heet deze Kia niet habanero, zoals de gelijknamige hete chilipeper. Kia geeft die naam een kwinkslag door er Habaniro van te maken. Die naam sluit bovendien mooi aan op het de huidige Niro-familie, bestaande uit de Niro Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid en de e-Niro. Naar verwachting geeft Kia deze Habaniro Concept dus een geëlektrificeerde aandrijflijn, maar details zijn nog niet bekend. Nog even afwachten dus.
Toekomstplannen
Er staat in ieder geval een hoop op stapel bij Kia. Denk aan een brandstofcelauto (FCEV) in 2020. In 2025 wenst Kia in totaal zestien voertuigen met een elektrische aandrijving te hebben, waarvan vijf hybrides en plug-in hybrides, vijf volledig batterij-elektrische auto’s en een op volume gerichte FCEV in 2020.
