Ferrari daagt Tesla uit, komt met elektrische supercar

Ferrari voelt zich uitgedaagd door de presentatie van de Tesla Roadster en komt met een eigen elektrische supercar. Dat kan Ferrari Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne bevestigen tegenover AutoNews.
“Wat Tesla doet kunnen we allemaal”
“Als er een elektrische supercar wordt gebouwd, dan wordt Ferrari de eerste”, aldus Marchionne. “Mensen zijn verbaasd over wat Tesla deed met een supercar. Ik probeer niet het werk van Elon Musk te minimaliseren, maar ik denk dat we het allemaal kunnen doen.”

Hybride supercars
Een volledig elektrische Ferrari duurt nog wel even, want de investeringen in elektro-techniek staan nog niet op een hoog niveau bij Ferrari. Toch voert Ferrari ze langzaam op. “We investeren omdat we dat moeten doen”, zegt Marchionne. Ferrari ontkomt sowieso niet aan elektro-aandrijving door steeds strengere emissie-eisen. Het Italiaanse sportautomerk werkt achter de schermen al aan hybride supercars. “Schakelen naar een volledig elektrische auto is dus eenvoudig.”
Ook een SUV
Ferrari werkt overigens ook aan een SUV die – volgens Ferrari – ‘de snelste SUV op de markt’ zal worden. De SUV komt eind 2019, begin 2020. Of die ook (deels) elektrische aandrijving krijgt is nog niet bekend. Marchionne kijkt kritisch naar de toekomst en verwacht dat rond 2025 minder dan de helft van alle verkochte auto’s alleen een brandstofmotor aan boord heeft. De rest rijdt volledig of deels elektrisch.
